this morning i got up as normal and did a water change just after i had dun this i looked in the tank n noticed a tiny platy fry swimming around n kept finding more as i still am whilst i type this haha, ive never had a birth b4 and didn't even think my platy was pregnant, therefore i have no way of seperating the fry sum of which i presume hae already been eaten by my angelfish and the mother platy, at the moment i have four trapped at the top of the tank in a normal net balanced across the top of the tank leaning into the water and the rest are free swimming in the tank is this a gud idea? wt quick solutions cud i feed the fry? and has anyone got any suggestions of nythin i shud do

sorry about the essay but jus in a bit of a panick haha reli wasnt expecting this

any help would b gr8 thank you

haha same as me.... i panic when my sword & platy gave birth as the same day(24th june'09).... well try to get a breeder net will be best and you can try slowly find the remainding fry's(if u can) and put them into the net, as for me case i move the mommy's into another spare tank before they gave birth... for food wise, i use flakes, i crush it till it's totally fine powder and throw it in... there are other types of food for them and well, it depends on what type you want to feed it as long as it's small and easy for the fry's to eat...

Cheers, happy fathering ^^

haha kwl, ok i'm gonna go out n get a breeder net from pets at home, okay thats what i'll do good idea.

haha cheers
thanks very much for your help really appreciate it

Crushed flakes is the best for them I find... liquifry and egg yolk etc. makes too much of a mess as most of the particles are too fine for livebearer fry (which are MUCH larger and more developed when born than most newly free swimming egglayer fry.)
Good luck with them! They are SO CUTE when they're born... :)

they(fry's) dont eat in the first 24hrs/48hrs after they are born, Base on some research i done in various forum and the internet, that's what they all pros say so, but i just dump alittle crush flake into it. Didnt want them to feel hungry lol.

Cheers

i've now seperated the fry in a breeding net but not quite sure what i am going to do with them as i cant home 8 platy in my 20 gallon wiv a small angelfish 3 cory and a bristlenose plec

any suggestions?

Keep them until they're two inches long and most pet stores will take them.

ok thanks will do, maybe by then i might have anova tank which they can live in cos i wud quite lyk to keep them

They should be fine in that tank until they are big enough to sell, but not until they reach adult size. At about 4 cm they will be very easy to sell.
