Hi,
I was recently thinking about planting my tank but do not know what plants I should have. My tank is 36x12x18" and has a interpet triton 18w 24" bulb in it. I have play sand substrate, a small slate made cave and a piece of bogwood.

So if anyone can help me with what plants would look good? B)

I've always like Sword plants. :) They are usually fairly easy to care for too. Java Ferns look nice tied to rocks or wood too...That's about all I can think of right now. I'm not too good with plants, sorry. :*)

I don't know if you noticed, but we have a Planted Tank Section too. They might be able to help you a lot. :)

Hi Matt_B :)

Selecting appropriate plants and keeping them healthy is an art in itself. We have some very knowlegable members who post in the Plants and Planted Tanks section. I'll move your thread there so they can advise you. :D

What you can grow really depends on how much light you have over the tank, and at the moment im afraid with the lighting you have you wont be able to grow very much, you only have about 1/2 watt per gallon, so you will have to upgrade your lighting if you wish to grow plants.

I would recommend you have a look at the pinned article on lighting at the top of this section of the forum this will give you a much better idea as to what you will require.

Its strange that they have provided a 24" tube when your tank is 36". I would have expected atleast a 30" tube which gives 25W.

As mentioned above, you have low light. The plants that might grow in such conditions are Java fern, some crypts, anubias.

I would recommend you add atleast one more tube.
