I think I urgently need to visit the LFS again about this. I need some advice first though. What should I do and can you possibly tell me the gender of our rams (see the video — a link is at the bottom)? Here are some more details...

We bought four rams yesterday. All were healthy in the shop but alas, one died last night. The water parameters should all be fine. I think it must have just been stress.

I wanted two or three females and one male. The LFS wasn't sure which was which. I thought I could tell at first, but as soon as the LFS tried to catch them, the rams all turned rather dark (the stress, I presume).

I'm now not sure what I've got in my tank. I've a horrible idea that they're all males. Two of them have lip-locked a few times.

Should I return any of them? Please help!

The below video shows the three remaining fish. Can you tell their gender from this or is it not sufficient?

Thanks for any advice!

First off you should re-post this in the new world section. And second these look like german-bolivian ram hybrids in my opinion. And from the video i would say three males.

They are all blue rams and all male. Never heard of a bolivian, blue ram cross.

Firstly — could a moderator possibly move this to the New World section for me? Sorry!

@thereverend turtle: Hmmm ... that's what I've been thinking. Would you recommend keeping the three males as they are, in that case, or adding several females?

At the moment, my plan is to see how they get on over the next few days. They've quietened down rather a lot and each seem to be sticking to one part of the tank.

How large is your aquarium? If its 3' long and you're not interested in breeding them, then they should ne fine as they are. Adding females will just add aggression to the group. If you want to remove one male and add two females that would most likely work.

yes its very hard to tell. fish 3 is defo a male. and i would say its probable that fish 1 is also. i think fish 2 is a female.
