Help Needed To Expain How To Set Up A Aqua One External Filter

its 2nd hand but replaced all parts of the filter, but the outlet tube looks like it will suck up the fish should there be a cover or some thing covering it?

the outlet tube should have a spray bar or a funnel shaped plastic piece that fits into the plastic crook shaped pipe. the inlet should have a strainer on the end, a bulb shaped plastic bit with slots in it to let the water through into the filter again this fits onto the crook shaped plastic tube. they both connect using small plastic connectors.
