I have just found a fish swimming backwards  it looks fine and no sign of disease, yet its swimming backwards constantly, even when it chases the female to mate it swims backwards and does its thing (if ya get my drift ;))

What the hell is going on with it?

sounds rather bizarre :)
some male fish will back up towards females but they don't normally keep swimming backwards.

you haven't been drinking by any chance :) only joking

you should get some footage of it and post it. You might have discovered something new in fish behaviour. Out of curiosity, what sort of fish is doing it?

I've had fish swim bakcwords before. No biggie. I think mine have always done it to impress the females, i think it works, cuz the males always get a quickie after they swim backwords =]

Just wondering, is the fish a guppy? I only had young male guppies do this.

Weird. Only thing I've ever seen swimming backwards is Julidochromis and they also swim upside down and sideways. What was it?
