I have a Aqua art 60 L tropical tank. I set it up 4 months ago (ish) and it has been trouble free - until now!!!

All was well until i introduced 2 mollies and 4 neon tetras approx 2-3 weeks ago. The following day one of the mollies died but i put this down to stress and got another from the same place. One of my minnows did have a white discolouring on its nose but i have had this fish for 2 years (in a smaller tank) and its had the white patch for approx 8 months. However, when the new fish went in this started to grow and was the start of the deaths.

The following info may help???

Tank size: 60 L
pH: 6.8
ammonia: ?
nitrite: ?
nitrate: ?
kH: 3
gH: >10
tank temp: 77f
No2: 0
No3: 50

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):
Zebra Danio - blood on one gill, appearance of barbs on the mouth, struggling to keep balance and staying at top of tank. Has had minor symptoms for 3 days (banding accross body and swimming eratically)
Black mollie - has been doing barrel rolls and mostly stating at the bottom of the tank. Now starting to get white cotton wool on one eye. Symptoms have only started this evening.
Have already lost 8 fish over the past 3 weeks (4 neon tetras, 2 white cloud minnows, 1 loach and one peppered cory).

Volume and Frequency of water changes:
Using Tetra easy balance. Have had tank for approx 4 months and have done 2 20% changes

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank:
Tetra easy balance (once a week), Tetra aqua safe (on water change) and interpret filter start (today)

Tank inhabitants:
4 banded rainbowfish, 2 mollies, 2 glowlight tetra, 2 serpae tetra, 2 white cloud mountain minnows, 3 neon tetra, 2 zebra danio (one now in the quarantine tank), 3 peppered corys and 1 sucking loach.

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration):
4 neon tetra and 2 mollies

Exposure to chemicals:
None known

I have been on the beginners forum and been advised to add fungus control but i am not sure which one or if it can be mixed with what is already in the water?

Can you help???

Your tank was overstocked with only being a 12 gallons tank.
When you preform a water change do you do a gravel vac.
Need water stats as there illness can be caused by bad water quality.

I would take a sample of your water to the lfs and tell them to write the readings down for you.
I would also advise investing in some liquid test kits in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

For now I would preform a water change then add anti internal bacteria med by interpet and pimafix, as you have bacterial infections

Hi,

Thanks very much for your help - i will follow those instructions.

youve had the tank 4 months and only done 2 20% water changes....why?

youre overstocked and nitrates at 50...way too high...deadly almost. do 50% water changes every day for a week. dont add meds until youve got the water quality sorted.

get ammonia tested and nitrites.

and do you clean the filter out? if so how often and how...if its using tap water then use old tank water.

did you cycle the tank before or after adding the fish?
