I need some advice pretty quickly. When I was vacuuming my community tank today, I found a little fry in the bucket. Now, i'm not sure what I should do with it.
I have a spare tank but no heater and its not cycled, I will buy a heater for it but can't just yet, only got it today. However that said, it is summer here and the temp is fairly stable at the moment, around 23-24C.
I'm worried if I put it back in to the tank my angelfish will eat it, as she has taken a great interest in rooting around the gravel lately - was probably more fry there.

Sooo - should I leave it in the tank by itself and change the water every other day, or put it back in and let it take its chances with the angel? Will it be ok in an unheated tank for a week or so until I get a heater?

cant you buy the fry catcher thing, net it out and put it in that? i habe bought one and its for when something like this hapens, if ur UK ur lfs shud sell them for a few pounds

Angelfish are predators on small fish. There is little chance it will survive.

As a short-term measure, I've often found a net handy. You presumably have one of those. Weight the inside down with a couple of pieces of gravel, and then find a way to suspend it in the tank so that the net is the water. The fry will be safe in there for a few days. Feed sparingly, but regularly. Young livebearers grow astonishly quickly.

You probably don't need a whole new tank for just one fish, but you could set up a fry-friendly one with small algae eaters, fan shrimps, and such like, and dump any fry you find into that one as the months pass.

Cheers,

Neale

If you leave it with the angel it will definently get eaten! I'd go with nmonks idea and set up the tank and add fry to it as you see them.
