Hi All Members,

Sorry for the life story I just want to get all the facts down!

I’m totally new to this site and I really need the help of all you fish experts..

I’ve had my tank establish for years now and up till this point ive never had any problems, I have guppies coming out of my ears and a small shoal of tetra neon’s (recently introduced 2wks)

The problems stated last week, my heater packed up and it was a few days before this was noticed as I was away, when I returned I noticed the temp was 24’c (usually 27ish) I installed a new heater and the temp quickly returned to normal, At first I lost my 2 albino catfish (faithful cleaners for the past 5 years) so I put this down to old age!
Then I started to loose guppies at the rate of 2-3 a day, I’ve had the water quality checked and been told its not a good as it could be but it’s not bad enough to cause deaths.
Last night when doing my checks I noticed some of my guppies were swimming from the top of the tank straight into the sand (dive bombing) they acted stunned at the bottom for a minute of so then repeated the behaviour, But when I woke this morning I found 12 dead fish so far and 5 more that look like they wont last much longer!..
The fish have white patches of scales near the tail and their fins look tatty and like their rotting off, they are just lying around on the floor and can barely swim..

I’ve been treating the tank for the last week with stress zyme and stress coat ive changed the food ive done water changes ive cleaned the filter, I’m completely stumped!!

Please any advice will be gratefully received Please help before it’s too late!!

Thanks Martin

How many gallons or litres is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

If temp drops fast it can cause deasease and stress. Deseases like whitespot, swim bladder, columnaris.

The white patches do they look like cotton wool, bleaching beneath the skin.
Any white edging around the scales.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
Can fish maintain balance in the water.

it sounds like columnaris but also need to rule out parasites.
An unstable temp can lead to columnaris.
