Hi all
Please help, im not sure whats gone wrong
The water in one of my tanks has gone all cloudy and i have a nitrite reading.
Up till yesterday everything was fine.
I dont want to lose my fish.
I did a 20% water change last night after doing the water test and i will do another 20% change again today.
What could i have done to make this nitrite appear?
I have a 0 ammonia so i dont get it.
Im not overstocked and havent added anything recently
Please, please please help
Thanks
Eve

Its been running for about 4 months now, i cycled it properly and untill yesterday all my water stats were stable and normal.
I feed a small amount of flake twice a day, same as always and algea wafers and floating food once a day.
it always gets eaten, if its still there for a while i remove it

Ok thanks for that.
From what i have read then im oerfeeding them and water changes wont help at all.
Should i stop feeding them or what. It doesnt help with a solution just a diagnosis.
At least im one step closer now
Thanks

i dont know if everyone else does this but i have a random day each week were i dont feed the fish anything at all
regards scot :good:

I would skip a day, then cut back on their food and see if this helps. It's a little suspicious though if they're eating everything. How long does it take for them to eat it all? Have you cleaned your filters or changed the media lately? Regardless, IMO cutting back on their food would be the 1st step.

I have already given some flake this morning but i wont feed them tonight or tomorrow.
I have cleaned my filter recently, about 3 - 4 days ago.
I Noticed that the flow had reduced so i just cleaned it in some of my tank wather and put it back in.
Ive not put new in there just washed it out

Ok, skip tomorrow then cut the flake back to once a day, this should hopefully solve your problem. I used to feed my fish twice a day, they'd gladly eat it but they didn't need it, all it did was produce more waste. You'll notice your fish more active with less feedings too.
