I have a golden barb that is stuggling swimming. Its head is pointed down at the bottom and its tail is towards the top of the tank and there are bubbles coming out of its butt. It is jerking and swimming around trying to stay in the middle level of the tank but as soon as it quits swimming it takes off towards the top. Its just started doing this about an hour ago. Im sorry I do not know the chemistry of my tank right now. The tank is a us 20 gallon tall tank. The tankmates are 6 black ruby barbs and 5 other golden barbs with 4 julii cory cats. I do monthly 25% water changes using stress coat to get rid the tap water of chlorine, I also use a plant fertilizer. The only thing I have introduced lately to my tank is 2 pieces of slate from the local fish store and some java moss. The tank has been set up for about 8 months with no other fish losses or anything like that. I have a filter that does 250gph it is a skilter filter. I am located in Arkansas, United States. Any help is appreciated. If you need any more information I will try my best to answer. Thanks.

My golden barbs have done the opposite. They sink like stones when they become ill. I put them in a hospital tank and treat with an anti bacterial solution. This has sorted things out in the past but takes a couple of weeks before they are swimming and staying balanced in the middle again.

When I woke up this morning and checked on the fish it seems fine. It is swimming normal and acts like nothing has happened. I dont know what happened.

Sounds like he gulpted some air, shows the same symtoms as swim bladder.
What do you feed the fish.

I feed a mxiture of goldfish floating pellets and goldfish flakes. The fish began to do this again today and I went to the local fish store and the manager said the fish wasnt getting enough spirulina. I bought a little can of it to see if it helps.

Ok, good luck.
