ok so the eggs from my spawn have started hatching, now they were getting eaten by the father. I took him out earlier as i was told it would be best for the fry. But i just saw one fall out of the nest and it took a few attempts trying to get back in, but it didn't make it and then it just fell lifeless onto the floor. It has been like that for a good ten minutes laying on its side in the same place. Is there anything wrong or he is just exausted and will he come back to its normal self in a litle while??? i really need help here as dont know what is wrong wit it whether it has had or or if it will live as normal once i get feeding them after the egg sac is gone???? :S :S

Please help quickly!!!!

Bret

I really would like some help quickly with this as im going out of my mind :S !!!

In some cases they can survive all you have to do is to lessen the water make it like 2 inches deep so they can easily swim up and ............

If they just started to hatch, they won't be free swimming yet. The daddy may have been naturally culling the babies, but some do eat all of them, the cannibals. You should have some that make it, especially if you had a good number of eggs fertilized. The real challenge begins after they've worn off their egg sac. It's inevitable to lose a few fry...some of them just have deformities or aren't strong enough to make it. If you have a whole lot of eggs, try to be thankful...it will be more of a challenge to grow out a whole slew of fry. Good luck! It sounds like you're going well so far.

Theyve been hatching since last night. Altogether i have seen around 9 fry. They have all been in the nest at first, but then they fall out and then lay on the bottom. Then they dart up to the surface to try and get back in the nest but they ant. So they keep trying. Should be freeswimming pretty soon :)

It will be very hard to raise fry without a father. If the nest breaks up somehow, they are as good as dead. The male eats dead or fugused eggs. Maybe one of those fell and he ate it...they do neede to slurp them up to put them in the nest too. Maybe you overreacted?

Personally Bret I wouldnt worry about the fry at this stage as they dont actually need to be in the nest as there are no preditors and they dont have their labyrinth organ to breath yet. Just let them rest and hopefully they should be freeswimming in the next couple of days. I had a ton of eggs at the bottom on one spawn and the majority hatched (my male couldnt keep up with the falling eggs as there were too many).

What are you going to feed them on? I used bbs from around day 3 or 4.

Hope you get some to make it, if not you can always try the pair again in a couple of weeks. Good luck

I take the male out almost every spawn. yes some eggs dont always hatch but majority do, it helps me keep my spawns numbers down to a reasonable amount, 200-300 fry is just to much for me.

just letting u know bret, theres still a good chance you end up with some fry.

when the fry have recently hatched they cant swim so uness the father is there to put them in the nest they wont be able to get back up as they arent free-swimming!!!!!!!!!!!! :X
