Hello Everybody

(first of all, sorry for my weak english) .. I had my first male Betta(Wingi) less than 1 month ago, i didn't knew anything about bettas so i kept him in a tiny bowl(about 1 litre) i thought it's fine as he was kept in a cup in the store !! i used to make daily full water change washing the bowl with poiling water, i'm from Egypt so i think weather is warm enough for him, he was looking happy and active, after i learned about,i got yesterday a bigger bowl(about 7 litr) with natural gravel and plastic plants (that's wut i can get right now), i washed all things with poiling water, and filled it with old decholorized tap water and put him in , he seemed to be so curious and spend some time exploring it then he started his wall-dance and swiming up and down till the night, i woke up in the morning and found him staying in corner near the surface with his fins clamped and tail twisted ! he doesnt move unless he has to, he eats and makes some bubbles
btw, i feed him black ant only(2 or 5 per day), i tried different pellets or flakes but he refused them all, and he seems to love ants. worthy to say that i doubted some infection or finrot before(about 2 weeks ago) coz of his grey head and white gill edges, they are noticable only with direct light (that's how i brought him from store), i gave him anti-bactrial for 3 days and doesnt change anything, so i stopped worrying (as he was acting so healthy)
it's about 12 hrs with him in this case, and i dunno what to do to help him
here are some photos that may be useful (sorry for bad quality)

Thanx in advance

without seeing the pictures (the links are not working sorry) im not sure what to think, but if he was fine previously it could be shock/stress?
have you seen any other signs of illness? does he have any torn/ripped fins/tail with black or white edging? if he is eating ok and making bubbles, i would just let him 'settle in' a little longer. but like i said without being able to see the pictures i could be very wrong :) and i am not prepared to go to imghost site as it is an uncensored image site to try and view. there are some 'not nice for a thursday morning' images right on the first page :) could you not open a photobucket account? quick and easy!

oh and welcome to the forum!

Well done on you getting him a bigger tank =]
Sounds like you are caring for him fine.

But people need pictures so to be able to see for themselves what is wrong with him (if anything).

Hi
Yeh, pictures would help.

Clamped fins can be a sign of Bacterial Infection. However, water being too cold can also cause it.

Things you can do -
Check the temperature of the water. Needs to be somewhere around 26 - 28 degrees.

Do a 50% water change.
When using a Dechlorinator, you dont need to let it stand. Just add the dechlor and stir it a bit.
Makes sure the new water is the same temperature as the old water.

Reduce the amount of light, as this will help.

You say you stopped treating? If you stop a treatment early the bacteria can eventually become immune to treatments. I would start the treatment again, but because he is in 7lts unfiltered you need to do a 50% water change before each dose. Make sure you work out the dosage accurately for that amount of water.

Good luck

Thank you all

Today i think he's doing very slightly better , he makes a round every hour or half hour ,then he back to the corner (he swims well but slow), he chased a floating peice of food for some while, and he makes more bubbles (a group of about 30 bubbles above every spot he stays in),

yeah, he his two front-down fins are white (and slightly transperent) edging scince i brought him (about 2 millimeters of white) , can it be meld fin rot??
(Sorry about that site, it's my first time to use it,generally i rarely use image hosting , I made photobucket account :> )

about water ,something strange happens i forgot to tell , these two day in the morning i found kind of water vapour on the inner sides of the bowl above water surface ! (no heaters or lamps)
i don't have water tests but room temp varies from 24 to 30 around the day.
i'll do what u've recommended, shouldn't i think of full water change by restarting treatment ?

Here are the photos, i dunno if it will help with this not good quality (sorry i dont have better cam)

Hi

The white tips on the Ventrils are normal for males :good:
The "vapour" you're talking about is just condensation, so dont worry:)

What shape bowl was he in before the new bowl? I ask because some people believe that round bowls like the one you have can cause the fish stress, which in turn can lead to infection.

The first link in the first post will work if you copy and paste it into your address bar...he looks pretty clampy.

Yeh seen it:) I just get a bit cautious about opening things?

What every one else has said about his "problem" is right so i just wanted to add this..

Be careful feeding him black ants all the time as they are very high in protien and in the long run will damage his health. They are a perfect treat and to be used as part of a balanced diet. Some fish take a while to get used to pellets but it really is worth sticking with them as they are the best base food. Also i'm not sure if you black ants are the same as ours but it could be that feeding him lots can give him an over ingestion of their toxins. You can try soaking pellets in the juice of bloodworms to help get him to eat them but he will give in and eat them before he starves. Allot of my thai imports take time to get onto pellets but they always do in the end.

Cheers and good luck with your betta

Gosh,The Photos ! :( I'll try again with them soon

Andy,,
The old bowl was round too :), it's good news that these things are normal

devon_charm,,
Thanx, that's informative

You could also try soaking the pellets in garlic juice, it gives their immune system a boost.

NoSoup4you ,,
nice advice :) I'll do that
kindly if u can c the photos, especially #3 (with yellow light) , do u think he's infected ? :(
would full water change make him more stressed?

hmmmm. there is a possibility he has an internal bacteria infection. if the temp is correct and you are keeping the water in good condition, i really cannot think of anything else that would be causing this behavior.

Some bettas tend to "sulk" when put into new environments.... but he has full on fin-clamping.

If things don't perk up soon, it almost has to be an internal bacteria infection. You need to be treating with an antibiotic that is specifically for internal bacteria (I don't know what you have in Egypt). You should treat for 7 full days. A lot of packages say 5 days.... but antibiotics for fish work the same way they do for humans. You need to ensure you wipe out the bacteria fully or else it just gains a tolerance to the treatment.

If you can, try a new med. Do at least a 75% water change before you start this (or if you remove him, just do a 100%).

god ! now his pelly seems pretty swollen , and getting dull :(
he has 1 fin less clamped, but he's still in the corner
yesterday i got him a new pellet insead of ants, (it's a big pellet) so i let him have some bites then i take it off
poor him, is he getting all fish diseases in the world :(
