Today I noticed that my female betta has some short little whit strings sticking to her. She is also looking a little pale. On her back she has a particularly pale area. Perhaps she is growing some white stuff there in a patch and it's just very thin? She is also listless and disinterested in food. Does anyone know what this is and what I should do?

Get a pic to let us see what it is like, you also need to give us the tank stats - like temp, ph, is it planted etc.

All of this will help us to help you.

Is there anything in the tank that could have hurt her, how long have you had her, is there anything in the water like worms or something that has attached itself to her?

Are there any other tank mates ?

is it the tips of her vental fins? the two that come down from the front of her tummy. these often are tipped with a slightly trailing white bit, more notable on males tho

Sorry, I don't have a testing kit for ph. She is in a 1/2 gallon bowl by herself. There is a small plastic plant and some gravel. I haven't seen anything crawling in the water. The temperature is about 73 degrees? I have trouble reading the little stick-on thermometer. One of her fins has a small tear, but I think she already had it. I've had her for 2 weeks and I've been doing 2 full water changes a week. (She had one yesterday). I use tap water with the recommended amount of conditioner. I haven't added any aquarium salt because the lady at petsmart said that the small amount salt already in tap water was eough for bettas. After a little research I'm thinking my betta may be in the beginning stages of columnaris. I think I am going to follow the instuctions I found on doing a water change, cleaning her bowl with hot water and salt, and then adding some aquarium salt to the fresh water.

Thanks

PS-I tried to take a picture but the stuff is small and didn't really show up at all.

No. There were two little string stuck to her side, and one little short one on top of her head.
