ok....i want to turn my 10 gallon into planted...due to the fact the jd's i have in there must be given a bigger home...so im going to take them back due to the fact i dont have a tank for them yet...now as for the 10 like i said above id like to try planted tank...how much work goes into a 10 g planted...what would someone recomend for a begginer in this area? what fish could i keep in it to avoid over crowding the small tank...and is C02 NEEDED for planted tanks all info will be mucho Helpful!

Low light, decent substrate, decent liquid plant food (Tropica Plant Nutrition is a good bet). Choose the right plants for low light.

I would start here (as I did!) rather than jump straight into high-tech stuff. George Farmer has proved recently how superb a low-light planted tank can be!

any suggestions on what plants i can use? and what substrate i want something on the "Tranquil" or how could i say...."Zen" side...i would like to do a aquascape of a japanese sand garden one day but i have yet to come up with a suitable design that would look natural...so im trying planted first...im thinking along the lines of maybe a grassy type "Ground" with maybe a tree like plant or 2? and a decent sized hunk of drift wood but like i said its only 10 gallons so i have very little room to play with! what would you do?

I ued to have a 10 gallon...i used Vallisneria spiralis , anubias, java fern , Java moss as my carpet, and
Cryptocoryne wendtii , this is for a low light setup..i didnt use a driftwood in mine but u can...like buy a small 1 and attached some nano anubias or java moss

any pictures? so i can get a general idea of how it was set up....my first idea was with some type of moss for the ground..something that looks a lttle grassy...ima gonna try and skip the whole cycleing thing by using pure spring water would this help or hurt the plants? the tank comes with the standard tube light in the hood or-deal should i up the watts or try with the light i have?

well the plants that I have aformentioned do not need co2 and 1wpg or 1 1/2 is gd enuff. No I dont have pics of my 10 gallon anymore

the vallisneria is for background....its like a tall grass
anubias are slow growers and r generally small and are foreground plants . I personally luv them and i have them in my 30 gallon cuz they r cute and some of them do flower...u can attach them to ur drifwood...mine are attached to lace rocks

Java fern plantts are for the middle , u can also attach them to driftwood, rocks, ect

Just get a slate and spread ur java moss on it and tie it up with sewing thread and u have urself a carpet...I like java moss...although christmas moss is so beatiful but is harder to grow

I'm sure George won't mind admitting that Llj has been doing excellent low light tanks for ages and some of the plants she gets to grow look superb and better than many high tech ppl manage.
