While I have supplies for my SW venture, I still think I need things, so I'm going to take the opportunity to make a list of the things I have and the things I still need.

Things I have...

Main Tank
Tank
Stand
Lighting (2x65W CF fixture & 2x14W NOT5 fixture)
Bulbs for the lighting (2 10k 65W, 2 14W Actinic)
2 Koralia Nano 425s
Hydor Slim skim nano
1 Eheim Jager heaters (75W)
1 Coralife digital thermometer
Tank background
Moonlight
Redlight

Quarantine Tank
10g tank
2x14W NOT5 fixture
1 Pengin 550 powerhead (14.5x flow)
Glass cover
1 Coralife digital thermometer

Things that apply to both systems
Test kits (Copper, Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, Calcium, Carbonate hardness, Phosphate)
Portable refractometer
RO/DI unit
Rio 50 powerhead (just an extra one)
Airline control valve (for drip acclimation)

Things I still need

-Saltmix
-Powerhead or pump for the waterchanges - depends on how big the waterchanges are. 10-20% isn't going to cut it for a planted SW, I've been told about 50% weekly initially (Barr Report), which makes A LOT of sense to me. Sorry, if it goes against what is normally practiced.
-Container for RO water storage - Thinking trash bins
-Containers for mixing SW & SW storage - Thinking trash bins. :D
-Algae magnet
-Thermometer for the waterchange water - cheapie
-Powerstrip for the main tank (I have powerstrips for the quarantine & waterchange water)
-Lighting timers
-Stuff to hook up the RO/DI unit (no clue what I'll need.)
-Something to measure TDS
-Test kits that apply to macro algae keeping
-Chemicals to dose Ca++
-Chemicals to dose trace
-Chemicals to dose kH
-Nets (I won't be mixing my FW & SW stuff)
-airline tubing (acclimation process)
-2 Smaller buckets for drip acclimation
-Waterchanging syphon
-10k bulbs for the Quarantine tank
-Aragonite sand
-LR
-2 small heaters for SW & quarantine (but not needed until the winter.

Is there anything that I'm missing? I think I've got everything, but would love to run this by all of you first. Yes, I'm placing importance on quarantine. I'll be heading to the stores tomorrow and in the next couple of days to find the items.

Looks good to me. Just something to be aware of though with the trash bins, make sure they're sturdy and strong, a lot of people use them for water storage, but I've heard of a couple stories of them breaking, and people end up with 35 gallons of water on their floor. Just something to be aware of.

Test kit for Magnesium
Long handled blade scraper

:good:

You can buy water storage butts which sit on a stand and have a tap at the bottom

For the ro unit, dont forget to buy two ball valves - for the outlest pipes, to trap water next to the membrane so that it doesnt dry out

i got a big long pipette off ebay that holds about 25ml of fluids, awesome for target feeding LPS corals!

Only keeping shrooms and rics, Ben. :)

But I do have syringes from when my cat was taking insulin. He's no longer on it, but I've got like a whole box of them left. Good for killing the dreaded Aiptasia with either Lemon juice or Joe's juice.

You just made me think, though, some small containers or clear plastic tubes to trap the ickies... Not aiptasia, but I'm sure the dozen or so thumbsplitters or other pests I'll get because I have lousy luck!

Thanks a bunch so far! Keep 'em coming. Look forward to shopping tomorrow and Tuesday. I've been dealing with insomnia lately and I was too tired to go shopping today. Had church today and that means I get up early.

Just a local name for Mantis shrimp. :good:

oh right, thanks no wonder i never heard of them

So much more menacing to say thumb splitter. Hehehe. Actually, they are extremely intelligent and fascinating creatures. If I had an acrylic tank, I'd keep a peacock mantis in a species tank, as they are extremely beautiful. Many don't even do damage to a system, but some break tanks and kill livestock.

I've never actually heard of a mantis breaking glass...A guy actually got a whole bunch of different thicknesses of glass and put them between the mantis and a crab, the end result was a confused mantis and a lucky crab. Just sayin...I'd also like to get a mantis, though no way I'd be able to get another tank.

I think the potential for damamge is there, but the actual incidents are few and far between. I think they could possibly make great pets for a species tank. Way back when I was following a couple of journals, a few mantis tanks sprung up. Pretty cool.
