My mum brought a siamese fighter the other day and he seemed fine at first but now he just floats around not very active. I have done a water change and moved him into the fry tank in a breeder box to rest cause the tank he was in has some salt and wasn't fully cycled since we brought it and moved it to our house some of the bacteria would have died. My other siamese fighter seems fine in my other tank. I have checked Ammonia and its fine. I have also used Prime which is water condition, clyce, detoxics nitrate, nitrite and ammonia. Any suggestions? please help.

What size tank is he in?
What are the exact Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate and pH readings?

Could you provide some pictures?

Nice to see another Kiwi on here :p

the Ammonia was fine. Im not sure on the other like I said I used Prime which detoxices the nitrates, nitrites and ammonia also provides slime coat. Also its a 20L but he is in the breeder box cause fry are in the tank. He was in a 60L tank but i moved him cause he was acting weird. I noticed little cottony stuff on the side. I can JUST see it. I only have Pimafix, Melafix, tonic and tonic salt. Would any of those work? im really worried about him :(

Google Ich, see if it looks anything like that.

What is the exact Ammonia reading? It would be helpful if you can get the Nitrite and Nitrate readings too. If you don't have a test kit to measure them then, if you're near an Animates, bring them a water sample and they will test it. Make sure to ask for the exact readings.

Does he look like he has Swim Bladder? (Google it if you don't know what it is)

I am trying to remember previous advice given by wildbetta, if I remember rightly, it was to keep away from meds with the suffix - fix as its something in the meds that doesn't bode well with bettas.

I think the best course of action is plenty of water changes with warmish dechlorinated water.

Good luck, keep us posted on progress :)

im by a pet center. Also no its not Ich its more of the cotton wool disease as I see little cotton parts on his fin and a little patch on his body. I heard a little bit of pimafix can work and little bit of salt

How often do you do change the water, and what percentage (roughly) do you change?

Did a water change today I do it once a week also I either do a little too much or just 20-25%

Also we just got him 2 days ago

Ah, didn't spot that part. Bettas often seem susceptible to problems after a move. Fresh water is the key here, so I would suggest daily water changes, roughly 25%, until it clears up.

ok thanks. What about the cottony look on his fin and part of his body?

What is the temp of the tank?  From your pic he is quite clamped and the lethargy you describe is often a sign of low temps.  As for the cottony patches -- watch them closely to make sure they do not spread.  Can you get a pic of the cottony places?  Clean warm water is the best option for treatment.  Steer clear of medicines with that end in "fix" (melafix, pimafix, bettafix, ect) because they contain tea tree oil which tends to coat the labyrinth organ in anabatoids  (bettas, gourmanis, paradise fish) which makes it harder for them to breathe.  I personally do not recommend salt unless it is needed to cure something, like ICH for example because it can be hard on their kidneys.
