hey guys. this is about my male angel, who's about 9-12 months old.
he's been like this for about 7 days now. before i get into what i've done to treat him, and what other forums have suggested, what does it look like to you based on the video?

youtube video

thanks for the help.

Looks like he hasn't got long left to live.
The fish looks like its to far gone to save.

What do you feed your fish.
What are the water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

If its swim bladder it can be caused by bad water quality, bad diet, injury, birth defect, bacterial, internal parasites, unstable temp.

the tank has been established for nearly a month, with consistent ammonia at 0ppm, nititre at 0ppm, 0ppm nitrate (plant overload i guess?) and a ph of 7.4. temperature is stable at 76 degrees, controlled by two heaters capable of heating the entire tank each, on opposite sides. i have two filters, also running on either end of the tank, with 12x hourly turnover.
i feed the fish what i've always fed them, which is tetracolor tropical granules, which is what they prefer. i've tried veggie flakes and other foods, and they dont like it much. all of my fish also enjoy grazing on algae and plants.
his swim bladder issue is not a birth defect because i've had him since he was dime-sized and has always been a strong swimmer. i really think it's either a bacterial or an internal parasite, but without knowing which, how can i treat it efficiently?

with regards to his prognosis, i thought last week he was about to kick the bucket, as i've never had a fish get to this stage, and then last a whole week. he's actually gotten better, in that he no longer has the excess slime, and he now is pooping regularly again, albeit a little only from not eating enough.

any suggestions on what to do are welcome!

Excess slime can be caused by bad water quality, parasites, ph shock.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
has your ph altered.
What colour was his poo.
To many dried foods. Need a varied diet of frozen foods like brime strimp and daphnia which helps the fish digest it's food.
Also some green veg like, broc, peas, spinach.

Internal parasites signs are.
Long stringy white poo or clear mucas poo.
Worms prutruding from the anus.
Enlarged anus, or red inflamed anus.
Fish will look skinny or bloated.
Sometimes bent spines.
Sometimes fish will swim on there sides.

thanks for the reply.

as of tonight the angelfish is still alive, but with no visible signs of improvement. i've kept up with the medication, adding the two doses of parasite clear recommended by the manufacturer.
tonight is the 5th and last day of treatment with tetracycline for the fin-rot that he developed from all the stress.

with regards to your questions above:

no ph shock. water is changed every sunday, with two filters and running and 12x hourly turnover. angelfish was housed with rainbowfish, which are more susceptible to poor water conditions.
water tests come back at 0ppm for ammonia, nitrite and nitrates (too many plants). pH has always been stable at around 7.4.

he does not have anything coming out of his anus, nor does it look inflamed or in any way weird. he is getting thinner progressively, and as in the video, swims sideways and/or upside down. when he was in the main tank, he would prop himself on plants. now that he's in the bare hospital tank, he either lays horizontal on the bottom glass, or at the top of the tank in the corner. in either situation he's just there resting, and will only move if you tap the glass or in any other way attract his attention.

after tonight's dose of TC i will have completed treatment for both internal/external parasites and fin rot. what else can I do? i truly believe that while these things were indeed present, neither of them were the cause of his more problematic condition, and obviously treating them will not treat the main problem...

any suggestions are greatly appreciated. we still are eagerly trying to save him!

As he lost weight due to not eating.
How long have you been using the meds.
With some external and internal parasites you have to treat again.
The meds kill the adult parasites, but you have to treat again to kill the young as they hatch.
