This tank will be for umbuna cichlids. It will have crushed limestone substrate and lots of rocks. I think it will be very dull without some plants. I just don't know what plants will be grow well in there...

What would you suggest that might do well?

Thanks for helping!
Amanda

to be honest I think you will struggle keeping live plants with mbuna cichlids. Anything that goes in the substrate will probably get dug up or eaten. Also if the PH is too high most plants won't do as well.
You can try having the plants in pots and putting fish netting over the pot and allowing the plant to grow through a slit in the netting. This should help stop the fish digging all the gravel out.

You could try Anubias, Java Fern or Bolbitis and tie it to a rock or bit of wood.
Otherwise plastic plants :)

Java fern on the rocks is your best shot, if they dont eat them that is :)

Ive not had cichlids yet so cant give any personal opinion, but according to tropica these plants are not eaten by herbivorous fish. The valls perfer hard water too.

Anubias barteri ''coffeefolia''

Anubias barteri var. angustifolia

Anubias barteri var. barteri

Anubias barteri var. caladiifolia ''1705''

Anubias barteri var. nana

Bolbitis heudelotii

Crinum calamistratum

Crinum natans

Crinum thaianum

Echinodorus osiris

Echinodorus x barthii

Microsorum pteropus ''Undulata''

Microsorum pteropus

Microsorum pteropus 'Narrow'

Microsorum pteropus 'Philippine'

Microsorum pteropus 'Windeløv'

Vallisneria americana (gigantea)

That is the val I was thinking of! I was also thinking anubias of some kind, so that would work out great!
I may check out some of the others on the list for a little variety...
Thanks for helping!
