Okay so i've been pitching in way too many of my opinions and inputs in every thread and now i'll be needing some of yours :D

I'm planning to get a 175-gallon (not liter) tank that has greater length than height by March of next year and i've crossed my options so far for these:

Elephant fish - grows big and maybe quite delicate
Black ghost knifefish - grows way bigger
Glass catfish - pretty as they are but their delicate care exceeds their beauty
Splash tetras - not available where i'm at but i'd kill to get my hands on at least a trio lol

So i'm thinking of getting like a:

Reed fish - i know they grow quite long 2-3 feet and are very good escape artists
Leopard bush fish - seen one a decade ago but had no idea what they were back then
Leaf fish - just because it looks like a leopard bush fish as well
Anableps - quite big also but my overseas dealer has given me a very reasonable price
Freshwater frogfish - quite pricey though but colorful
Freshwater stonefish - just for being bizarre
African butterflyfish - now this what i'm eyeing on lol

Any pros and cons are welcome. Additional suggestions would be great too. Thanks everyone! :)

WOW 175 GALLON TANK TO GET BACK INTO THE HOBBY!!!! THAT'S ONE HECK OF A COME BACK!!!

Have you considered a reef?
Freshwater is my thing i guess :)

@kevin: instead of getting three 60-gals right? Lol.. one-time big-time maintenance that's for sure.

In my 150 gallon reef, set up in June, I have made... one water change!
The hardest part of the maintenance is doing the tests to keep an eye on the chemistry.

Have a look on my youtube channel in the signature.

If you're really keen on freshwater, though, have you considered an amazon tank? Discus like higher temperatures, and in Bahrain they should be easier to keep.

I'm afraid i might be tempted to put something else other than a fish if i set it up like the amazon as i have a lot of reptiles lol.

The only marine fishes i'm interested in rigt now are mandarin dragonets but from what i read, it's gonna be a pain.

I only plan to keep one up to a trio of fish inside the tank. Can discus be kept singly? I know they're shoalers and the only fish they're compatible with are angelfishes and severums.

I've had African Butterfly fish in the past and absolutely loved them.  They are so beautiful to watch and behaviourally quite interesting too.

Maybe a pair. They won't die if kept singly, but barring exceptions they won't be happy singly.

How about an oscar and a big plec?

Yeah a massive planted discus tank would look mint iv always wanted to do that when am older
Or maybe a malwie setup?

I know right. What did you feed yours? Do you still have setup photos? I want more convincing lol

I've been giving about getting an oscar a thought but i had 2 types before, a black oscar and and albino looking red oscar and seems that they've grown a bit boring to me.

I wanna keep plants to a bare minimum as well as just 1 or 2 fish. I wanna turn my tank not just a fish tank but like an aquatic zen garden as well lol

Ok, here's an unusual one:

How about a highly scaped zen garden to look like a landscape and about 25 rummynose tetras and a pair of discus.

The rummynoses will shoal together helped by the discus, the tank will be quite sparse and the rummynoses could represent a flock of birds, and if you go for the lighter coloured discus, like two white dragons, they could represent clouds in the sky.

Hmm that'd work but wouldn't be a big tank with small rummynoses be weird to look at? I mean, it'll be like being in a 10th floor bldg and seeing people the size of mice lol

Even when the sky is "full of birds" it is quite empty, isn't it? That is the idea :)
