Help Male Auratus Cichlid

I have a male auratus cichlid that we use to call boss since from day one he was the man in the 65 gallon tank. Week ago I noticed that his tail had been chewed off, but he was still the boss. Local store said keep water clean and keep an eye on him should grow back in few weeks. Well last night I noticed he was nose down in his spot, after closer look only fins he has left are the front two. I bough a new little home for him 2.5 gallon and took him out and put him in there and gave him medicine. He is pretty beat up, but is still eating and trying to move around. Has anyone experienced this and if so have you seen the fins grow back. I love this little guy and want him to get better.

If the fins have been eaten all the way to the body, they will not grow back. If they are mostly missing, but still have some fin left they will regrow, but it can take quite a while. Have you figured out who the culprit is?
