Hi

One of my Kribs keeps swimming on its side.... not all the time, mind, just occasionally. And then she kind of vibrates for a second or two. She is still eating and active, she seems fine otherwise... Should I be worried??

Right over on her side or just part way over? And is she doing it while the male is there?

Just part way over. And I don't have a male Kris... I have 2 females, and the other Krib is currently in an isolation net as she was being too aggressive.. the other Kribs seems to go over to the side more when she goes near to this net

I dont want to sound stupid or sound as if im being patronising but are u sure there both females ??

if theyre still young you may just have a male and a female, ive just picked up another pair of kribs and the male looks almost exactly the same as the female, i think this is where he is a little younger than the female and and just a little smaller than the female (surprised she picked him as a mate !!!) you need to look real close to tell them apart, the male had a good red belly and body characteristics is v similar to the females tho her belly isnt as rounded as its going to get.

only when you look hard at his dorsal fin and tail fin you can see that it is a male,

The female will chase off a male and be aggressive if she is not interested in him as normally in the kribs workd to the female BIGGER IS BETTTER !! if they havent actually paird off and just been put together she may be thinking year right i can de better than that get lost and bring the next one in, whilt the male does his best to show wher what hes made of by rappidly skaling his bdy (simmilar to a wet dog drying itself)

There is a chance you may find that one of the kribs is actually a male, The males dorsal fin it far more extended and pointed compared to the female and a female tail fin is just rounded, the males goes to a little point.

Well someone on this forum told me they were both girls, but the picture was taken a few weeks back and they have changed somewhat... The larger one I think is definitely female, definite rounded dorsal fin, large rounded belly. The smaller one keeps hiding now but I think she has a more pointed fin.... I thought that if they had spots on their fins that they were female? as both do! So is this sort of beahviour looked upon as mating behaviour? Because if anything, the smaller one is male... would this ring true?

OK. Smaller Krib (Stripe) has a very squared off looking dorsal fin. Larger (Spot) has a dorsal fin that definitely is rounded where it could go to a point.

Have just had to do a 50% water change and so Spot escaped from the isolation net where I was keeping her for a few days. Now they are swimming together and Stripe seems more in control. Stripe keeps sort of beding her body towards Spot, so Stripes head and fin are pointed away from Spot....

the female shuld have a more rounded plump body with a bright pink spot on the belly, the male is likley to be not as plump more elongated body with no plump belly, are you able to post a pic ?? that would help alot.

Ive just had a look back at a prev post you have made with pics and you do indeed have 2 females.

I've seen ther photo's in the African section, they are definatley FEMALE. No doubt about it. She might just be taunting the other female. I've had females do it before. But most often the behviour your describing means she flirting.

Messing sounds good, as if she has got a bit of confidence back by having the run of the tank for about 20 hours whilst I isolated the other one! Will have to wait and see how they get on now.
