Any one got any ideas of how to keep my tank warm tonight!? My heaters broken! I've looked everywhere for polystyrene but can't find any! I've covered the tank over with some blankets but not sure what else I can do!?
keep the house nice and warm, wrap the tank up in a blanket which will keep it warm. don't disturb the tank too much checking it all the time, the more you open the lid the more it'll cool down. so long as the room is fairly warm the fish should be OK overnight (assuming you've nothing really delicate in there) and then go get a heater first thing tomorrow.
this is a very good reason why you should always keep a spare heater and filter in the house, doesn't have to be big ones or good ones but just enough to get you through a couple of days. cos you can guarantee the day it breaks is a bank holiday so shops are shut and you're broke.

A drop in temporature can lead to whitespot (ICH), so once you have your new heater, keep a sharp eye on your fishes general health. Other than the risk of whitespot, the tank should be fine so long as the room is warm, and teh tank is wrapped. I would advise against the hot water bottles, as these could potentialy overheat a small tank.
