Hi,

A little while ago one of my platys died from a mystery disease. He was unable to control his swim bladder and had to keep himself down in the water by sitting under a plant vertically, also his tail was slightly curved. Apart from this he seemed quite happy, he was eating well and getting on with things. I thought it might of been some sort of genetic problem so I left him be, eventually he wasted away and died.

About a week later one of my neons developed a white, swollen lesion on his tail that had a white spot coming out of it, I decided to euthanase him.

Last night I fed the fish as normal and discoved my sunrise platy was only able to swim and was stuck on the floor of the tank. He was feeding ok but couldn't swim off his side at the bottom of the tank.

I've come down this morning to find that another platy has a similar problem, but he is swimming on his side at the water surface. He has now moved lower in the tank and has proped himself under a plant but looks very swollen.

I really do not know what this is, I think it maybe tuberculosis but none of my books mention swim bladder problems as one of the symptoms... Please help asap!!!!

A tubercular fish usually feeds normaly, but loses weight as its internal organs become damaged. Some fish develop nodules under the skin which eventually ulcerate. Bladder problems may be due to TB.
