help, i had a breeding trap in my tank that had moss in it. but it must have overturned, because one of my SAE's was lodged in the hole at the top!!! my dad managed to cut the plastic off the fish, but now it has patches where the scales have been scraped off. i have put loads of stress coat+ in, is there anything else i can do. i feel really bad, becasue if i hadn't put the breeding trap in, then it would never of happened. :-(

please help

cheers :good:

Just make sure your water stats are perfect, maybe do a few extra water changes. Also if you get a product called Melafix that will really help them heal up dose the tank for a week or so and he should pull through :)

Wills

thanks, i'll do some water changes and i'll have a look for the melafix.

cheers :good: :good: :good:

Make sure when you add tank ornaments that the fish won't get stuck.
When fish out grow the opening of ornaments it best to remove them.

I would only half dose the melafix is not all fish tolerate it towell.

Let us all know how he gets on if you don't mind.
Good Luck.

sure no probs. she seems to be ok ATM, she's swimming about normally with the others. i don't think i'll be able to get any melafix though, as my parents won't take me to the LFS until i've finished my theory. (taken 3 hours so far :shout: ) so i probably won't be able to go until next weekend. will there be any point then? i'm hoping that she will be ok if i do lots of water changes and keep the tank really clean. :/

cheers :good:

Ok.
As long as there no sign of infection.
You can use methylene blue. A bath of methylene blue, or added directly to the wound.

hmm, i don't have any methylene blue either. i always seem to need a full bottle of each med whenever there is an illness, so i don't every have any meds in. :(

cheers

Do you have any myxazin by waterlife.

If not just do daily water changes.
Keep a look out for infection.

thanks, it doesn't look infected yet. i'm going to see if they have any melafix at the garden centre down the road. if they don't have melafix, is there another treatment that i could use?

cheers :good:

You can dab myxazin by waterlife onto wounds I think.
Methylene blue. Used as a bath or dab directly onto wounds.
You can clean the wound also with salty water.

hi, change of plan. we can't make it to the garden centre, so i can't get any meds. could i just use table salt to clean the wounds. my grandma said that's what her dad used to do to his pond fish. do i rub the salt directly into the wound, or do i mix it with water and dab onto the wound?

cheers :good:

Mix the salt in water first then add to the wound.
Wrap the fish in a clean cloth soak in tank water. Ask someone to hold the fishd own for you.
Don't have the fish out of the tank to long.

Or just do a salt bath instead.

thanks, i don't think it's necessary now. the scales seem to be growing back, and what's left of the wounds aren't at all inflamed, so i think it will be fine. i'll let you know what happens.

cheers for all the help :good:
