Hi All,

First post on the forums. I have had a largish tank for a while now. It is 60cm x 60cm x 150cm and I have approx (woops) 30 fish. There is one though that I am not sure of it's exact name. I bought the tank off a friend, this fish came with the tank. It was approx 15cm when I got the tank and it is now around 18cm. It is by far the largest fish in the tank but very relxed. It doesn't chase the other fish at all, it will contastly feed off the bottom of the tank sifting through mouhtfuls of small substrate. Looks amazing in the right light. I think it might be a geophagus of some sort but I am really not sure. If anyone can help me with it's name I would be greatly appreciative. It is an amazing fish!

Yeah. Geo. brasiliensis. It's a beauty !!!

Thanks, it is a great looking fish. I have two questions though.

How long can these fish live to? I think it might be as much as 6-8 years old at the moment.

How much would a fish of this type and size (18+cm) cost retail? Ballpark.

Yes Geophagus Brasiliensis it is. Males get up too 10- 12" females 7-8". It might be a male that's not full grown or it could be an older female. Since you said it's an older fish I would guess it's a female. Life span around 10 yr.

The price here if you were to sell it you could get $14-$20. These guys arecommon and really easy to breed.
