Hello! I need help trying to figure out what caused the lump on my dojo. I don't know if it's an injury, a tumor, an infection, or something else. I tested the water and the parameters are all fine and everything else in the tank is doing fine, including the platy fry. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it! He's behaving normal so I'm not sure what's wrong.

That doesn't look great. My guess is a tumour. The pink colour does hint to me being a tumour (blood flow). It's good that the fish is acting like normal. There are members on here with much more experience in these issues. Hopefully, one will see your post :)

I also see what looks like a scrape just behind her? head (short pectoral fins = female).

Do you have anything your tank that could cause that (rough rock, etc). The "tumor-like" thing could be from an injury, something pointy? Another loach or other spined fish?

My first go to is frequent large water changes as often as you can, daily or at least a couple times/week. Clean fresh water can help with many problems.

What temp do you keep your tank? Weather loaches prefer cooler. They can live at higher temps but that can impact their long term health too. What other fish do you have with it?

All that said, dojos can be prone to health issues. They are often bred for food (eek!) & gold & albinos can come with extra problems from inbreeding to keep those colors.

Although I've loved dojos (& loved many loaches), I've never kept them. But I have researched them often, I've never had the right tank for them...but now at least they're legal to keep in my current state.

Good luck & keep us posted on your dojo's progress. My fingers are crossed for you!

It's actually sand, not a scrape. I did have 1 piece of chola wood with a sharp edge that I removed. The tank is at 72 and all other parameters are fine according to the API test kit. I also have 2 150g sponge filters as well as a Seachem Tidal 110 filter. There's another dojo, some neon tetras, cherry shrimp, a pleco, a raphael catfish, and a few platys. I've had them and the tank (75g) set up for 2 years and this is the first issue that has come up. I've treated them for parasites (based on info from another dojo keeper) and also added some Indian almond leaves. I'll do another water change this afternoon. I'm hopeful since she's still acting fine and eating, but I'll keep carefully watching her.
