Sooo I am not that smart, and having a week off from work, if you've read my other threads in other sections of these boards, has led to idle hands and doing something in my tank every day.

20 gallon high, with 7 cardinal tetras and 7 cory sterbai.

I mucked around yesterday with some plants, and today in the process of moving them around again didn't realize what a MESS those fertilizer tabs can make! I didn't realize they were going to turn into a powder under water (how did i not think about that??) and my water has instantly gone almost opaque. There were five of those tabs that got messed with...

I changed out 30% of the water, two times, and it is still quite murky 2 hours after stopping touching things. In the mean time I have placed black-out towels over the tank out of fear that I'm about to cause a massive algae explosion...

I performed a nitrate test and the levels are less than 50 PPM which tells me that these tabs didn't release a ton of nitrate, thank goodness - so are there any health concerns to the fish I need to worry about?

Will this stuff settle out? I added filter floss to the topmost section of my aquaclear 30 to get out any particles that are making this murky, but other than that, am I just stuck with water changes? Should I maybe do a 100% water change?

I am seriously concerned about continuing to muck around and cause the fish stress being as the cardinals are notoriously sensitive so any help is much much appreciated! Don't want to lose my fish OR have an algae explosion if at all possible!!

I'm not sure if it the cloudiness will affect your fish but if you're wanting to clear it up quickly, I would go out and buy some Filter Aid and put some of that in.

What Filter Aid does is basically "bonds" tiny particles of dirt together so that when they go through your filter media, they will get trapped rather than progressing and being put back into your tank.
