Dear All,

I am new to this website and am really worried about my Betta. I bought my daughter a Crown Tail Betta two days ago and thought everything was alright. I must admit I was sucked in and bought a small tank that was recommended to me by the advisors in the pet store. I bought the little plant that fits in the center of the fish tank. Unfortunately, since yesterday I kept finding the Bette trapped between one of the leaves of the imitation "Peace Lily" and everytime I did I would release it. I went out today and when I came back I noticed that the fish looks like the top of it has a coating of what appears to be something like cotton wool. It could be where it's top fin has been damaged. It didn't look like that when I left this morning. I am worried as I don't know if it has done something to itself or whether or not it has contracted a disease!!

Any ideas??

Kind regards,

Melscorp

you have definitely come to the right place - while I am not an expert on diseases there is a member on here who is quite knowledgeable - Wilder. I believe they sign on about once a day so hold tight, keep the water as clean as you possibly can in the mean time!

clean water is the most basic essential thing you can do - while waiting I would also go to the beginners section and read up on cycling, nitrate, nitrite, ammonia and etc to learn about the balances of a happy tank! Since you already have the betta - read up on "fish in cycling"....

I wish you and your little betta the best of luck - on a side note - with Bettas, you NEED either live or SILK plants - plastic plants are a big no-no due to the bettas fins!

I am sure some betta experts will be along shortly....reduce the time you have to wait by posting specifics about your tank - size in gallons/liters, temperature, type of heater/filter, details about symptoms, what type of test kit you use (if any) and the most up-to-date readings you have (if you have the test kit in the first place)

the more information you give, the more people will be able to help you and your little guy out!
