Hello,

I am new to the forum. i have 5 bristlenoses, size ranging from 3 cm to 7cm, they are pretty young and have been in my fish tank (2 foot, 46 litre) for about 3 week. They were fine in the first week. Then i found my baby mollies have white spots, so i treated them by increasing the temperature to about 30'c and adding about 2 tablespoons of salt. From then on, all white spot has gone and i have turned the heater back to about 27'c. BUT my bristlenoses started turning red internally (look like bleeding) one by one. Now they are all very red on the lips, mouths, stomachs and some of them even on the fins. One of them has very bloated stomach. This has been happening for about 2 weeks. I have been searching information and treatments through the internet and asking many local aquarium shops for advice. But unfortunately, no answer was found.

I am so worried about my bristlenoses. Could anyone please help me with this problem. i don't want them to die!!!

Thanks so much and looking forward for any reply.

Septicemia with a alot of other bacterial infections on top.
Shouldn't of added the salt as they plecs are scaless fish, can only add abit of salt with them.
Septicemia is hard to cure once it has progressed I would issolate them if you can as the bacteria from the fish can leak into the tank.
Need to get medicating if you stand a chance of saving them.

Thanks so much for your advice, i really appreciate that.

Could pls suggest any medication for the septicemia? Do u know whether this disease will affect my other fish (1xkissing fish, 2xbaby molly and 2xgold half beak)? At the moment, they seem ok. Do I need to treat the whole tank as well and How?

Once again, thanks so much. i feel a little hope in saving them.

Looking forward to your reply

If in the states I would treat the whole tank with maracyn one and two, another one called maracyn plus.
Antibiotics are good but they will wipe the bacteria colony out in your filter.

Good luck, but once septicemia has advanced its hard to cure.
So fingers crossed.

Thanks so much. i will definitely get the medication for them. hope it will be able to treat the problem and save their lives. :)

I'm a beginner as well so this could be wrong but i thought mollies prefered a bit of salt in the water all the time so wonder about your choice of them as tank mates for the bristlenoses it could be that a happy balance is just not going to be possible.
