Hello I am looking at buying a Siamese Fighting Fish for my tank.

I am going to put some more fish in with it.

Any suggestions on what i should/shouldn't put with them.

Also is there anything i should look for when buying these?

Well, Betta's preffer slow to no current, and also more surface area than depth, and temperatures of 72-82 farenheit, 76-80 seeming the optimum temps. They are slow moving, and if you're getting a male, (most common kind found in fish stores) They CAN NOT be put in with another male... Or Female. They can not be put in with any fish that have flashy colorful fins, or any other semi-agressive fish, or fish that might try to nip their tails.

Perhaps it would be easier if you told us what size and dimentions the tank was, and what else you were thinking about getting, and we could go from there?

Also, if you want to keep a community tank, you need to make sure the tank is 'cycled'. This is extremely important. if you don't do it, your fish will die. Read the links in my signature - especialy the one about fishless cycling. If you still have questions on cycling afterwards, you can ask in the beginners forum (or PM me if you preffer) :)

Yea thanks.

I heard about not getting tetras.

The tank is only 5 gallon so I can't get corydoras :)

Thanks for the help :)

If its only 5 gallons I would recomend dividing it in half and getting two bettas Or maybe one male betta and two otto's.. but I think they like to be in bigger groups than 2?

 also need a tank with algea. IMO not a good starter fish. They also are darter/swimmers.

Best to do a betta only tank, but if it can be divided, it will be good for two Bettas, male or female.
