i just found a fry in my tank about 2mins ago how long till she will pop out another because i only found one and she tried to it the little one i have two female in a ten gallons thats where i found the fry


*update* i have found two fry but have not watched her drop yet and i took out the other female so they would not get chased

i have swordtails that have fry very often i have a pile of half inch to 2 inch rocks piled up in a corner with a bigger rock next to it
what happens in my tank is the momma goes under the big rock, has her babies and the babies find there way into the smaller rocks and hide, they show up 2-3 weeks later big enough to exist with the larger fish works well for me started with four fish now have close to 150 in a 50 gallon tank

ok so this morning im still only able to find 5-6 fry in my tanks and the female is still huge, is she still pregnant or do you think she is done i really want to watch her give the birth

It will usually take your female something between 3 and 6 hours to drop most of her fry. After that, the fry drop will slow quite a bit or may even stop. I have had goodeids that took over a day to drop a mere 15 fry but goodeids have huge fry that can take a half hour or more each to be born. The more typical molly, guppy, platy, swordtail will drop 2 or 3 fry in a minute or so, then pause for a few minutes and do it all again. If you watch your female for 15 minutes and don't see her drop any fry, either you are blind or she is about done.
