Tank size: 96L
pH: 8
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: 10<20
kH:
gH:
tank temp: 26 C 80 F

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):
All black neons have a few (not many) white spots, mainly on tail fins, a couple have them on their body. One black neon has an orange spot on his anal fin, and one black neon has instead of a spot, a white blob on the top of his head, in front of his dorsal fin. Some silvertip tetras have a couple of white spots again on their tail fins mainly. All fish have normal colour. The black neons are sitting at the back of the tank near the top but have been doing this since I adjusted the filter outlet so I think they are just swimming in the current. Silvertips have normal behaviour.

Volume and Frequency of water changes: 10% weekly

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank:

Tank inhabitants: 5 black neons, 6 silvertip tetra, 2 dwarf gourami, 1 krib, 2 amano shrimps

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): 3 plants (put in yesterday) bought from pets at home NOT from a tank with fish in. The silvertips had been in quarantine for a week and shown no signs of any diseases or problems. they have been in community for 5 days.

Exposure to chemicals: melafix - currently treating for damaged fins and a lesion on dwarf gourami caused by male krib

We have a quarantine tank but their is a blue phantom and neon tetras that we have recently bought. The male krib has been put into quarantine as the female was distressed so needed a time out (advice from lfs) i didn't quarantine the plants as I didn't want anything to happen to the blue phantom. I bought more plants following lfs advice.

Tank has was cycled fishlessly and has been running for about 7 weeks with fish in.

Please help I don't know what to do we lost some fish to white spot before and had to start again... Also there is melafix in the tank at the moment.

Is it white spot or is it fungal????

I'll try and get some pics in the meantime, if you need extra info please shout.

Please help!!

Hi

It is either whitespot or fungul, try treating the water with the right treatment for the fungal or whitespot. Are the fins frayed or noticably shorter?

The gourami's fins are noticably shorter but as I say that was to do with the male krib picking on him! Have been treating with melafix for two days. The female krib also has frayed fins but she was also stressed by male krib. Melafix says it treats mouth fungus but doesn't do whitespot. I have some protazin but I've obviously got melafix in the tank. What should do about that?

Whitespot looks like the fish had been sprinkled in salt.
Are the spots the size of a grain of salt or bigger.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing against objects.
Any fish gasping or laboured breathing.

Get you a link to see what you think.

yes that sounds just like it. I haven't noticed any flicking or rubbing but the black neons have been going to the surface a few times. Some of the spots are small but some are larger.

It does sound like the info in the link described. It says it is common to hard water with high pH which is what we have. I will lower the temp of the tank, shoulc I continue with the melafix? It says it treats mouth fungus.

Oh i think I forgot to say above that some of the black neons also have what looks like swollen or fluffy mouths.

Thanks!

Columnaris spots are hard to get rid of.
Anti internal bacteria med by interpet, and pimafix.
Melafix will be no good.
Remove black carbon if you use it.
Increase aeration in the tank as meds reduce 02 in the water.

Sorry wrong thread.
