I found this on the chip on the right side of the 180 gallon 1/2 inch thick glass fish tank while i was cleaning out the old silicone. I'm not sure if the chip was there before or not, it was under the silicone. The tank was running fine before i moved it, maybe it was caused during the move? what should i do or will it be fine if it can hold water for 48 hrs? There also seem to be a scratch or crack on the bottom but its hard to see only when you view it from the top and shine light on it.

thanks for the help!

I would venture to guess that this was a preexisting defect, but caution is going to be the key here. When you were removing the silicone, did it fill in the chip, or have a hollow void? Was the silicone torn or otherwise damaged in this particular area?

The silicone around that chip area was damaged or loose. I was thinking of going to a glass company and buying a 23" wide x 1.5" tall glass with a thickness of 1/2 inch and silicone it on the entire bottom of the right bottom panel.

Anybody have thoughts on this? thanks!

i forgot to mention the chip slightly above the bigger chip didn't have the glass piece attached to the silicone when i removed the silicone

What exactly do you mean here? Are you wanting to overlay the damaged area with a new piece of glass?

My suggestion would be to get a Glazier to look at it they may be able to repair it. Kinda like they repair chipped windscreens.

An interesting suggestion, guess this would largely depend if there no actual cracks or holes going right inside the tank as am unsure what the contents of the glass repair sollution is, probably a resin type of repair, and if its aquarium safe so as not to be toxic to the stocking.
