I have a pair of Archocentrus Centrarchus, this is the first time they have spawned
the female is alot larger then the male.

She laid a bunch of eggs on a big shell, only a few where yellow opaque the rest were translucent yellow. She started to eat the opaque ones, are these the dead or unfertilized ones???

If so it seems more and more of the eggs are going opaque, so dying! :(

What can I do?

there is prob now only 50 translucent ones.

Are these tricky to breed?

I thought they would be ok coz the young feed of that dermal mucus thing for the first food.

Ok,

time to answer my own question.

Yes if the eggs go opaque they have died, because more and more went opaque, then the fish decided to eat them all, I presume to try again later.

Possibly they were not fertilized in the first place as the male is alot smaller, so is maybe too young or inexperienced.

Or as this was there first spawn they need a few attempts to get it right?

better luck next time

Happened again!,

Spawned again and within a few days they have eaten them all.

Is this normal?, how many spawns does it normally take?

I'm told that these fish will breed as easily as the convicts.

help , any ideas.?
