My boyfriend and I have recently set up a couple of new tropical aquarium. He has one 16L aquarium and one 84.6L aquarium. We set up the smaller one first, with a couple of Ambulia plants, 4 guppies, a Clown Loach, an Angelfish and a Bristlenose catfish. It now also occupies a Red-Tailed Black Shark. The Angelfish had died a couple of days later, without any symptoms. We have no idea why. Does it need to be with another Angelfish? Or can they be on their own?
Anyway, I noticed a few white spots on the Clown Loach and immediately thought it was White Spot/Ich, since I have dealt with these kind of aquariums before. We bought some White Spot Eliminator and treated the tank but the Clown Loach ended up dying. After a while on of the male guppies died, but I think this may be from the other male attacking it since I should have bought more than one female per guppy. All the other fish seem fine, for now.
We set up another tank (the 84.6L) and it also had some Ambulia and two other plants, but I can't recall the names. We moved the Shark and the Bristlenose into the larger tank and bought 4 Swordtails. We noticed white spots on the Bristlenose so we moved the Shark back into the smaller aquarium. We treated the larger one with the White Spot Eliminator and the Bristlenose seems fine now. But, the problem is, one of our male Swordtails has just died but I'm not sure that it was white spot because I don't recall ever seeing any on him. Now the female is covered in them and it seems as thought she has a slimy coating all over her body. The other male swordtail is also covered in white spots. I suspect they also may have finrot because their fins seem like they are melting away/looks like it has been munched up. Help us!
p.s Both tanks are well aerated and there is plenty of water movement. We don't have a light yet, or a heater. But because it is summer the water stays around 24-26 degrees.
