Can someone help!!!

My tank is fading fast!! I have had tank set up for some time now and all fish have been in for a while, but all of a sudden fish are dying!!

I lost my 4 lovely peppered corys in 2 days!! Then an angel and a black tetra!! Whats going on??

Water is clean, test kits showing no signs of concern!! I cant understand whats killing my fish?!

I have another sick looking angel now who seems like he has lost control of his body and just floating around where current takes him!! this is all happening in last 3 days!!

What could be wrong in my tank, Ive never had a problem before so im unsure of which medicenes i need!!

just had another look and my little dwarf froggy is seeming pretty grim now too, his tummy lookes pretty bloated and his is floating on top of water which is very unusual as he can normally only swim to the top for a few seconds im afraid im going to lose him now too

:-( :-(

What are all the test readings please? Have you changed anything in the tank or in the room or house?

You can't add meds if you don't know what you are dealing with but do you have any carbon? Take out any old carbon & add some fresh.

How long has the tank been running?
What filters?
What substrate?

Hi diademhill,

thanks for getting back to me, im freaking out a bit!!

Had to leave my poor babies and come to work so will give you water stats later on tonight when i get home.

the only significant change in tank is a changed the pebble like gravel we had to smaller grainier stuff.

But this was done very carefully i transferred fish slowly and info tank of their own water while change took place, i dont know if its the stress of this still affecting them? this change was carried out a week ago.

I wondered if maybe the fish were mistaking the now smaller granuels for food? since they were used to the bigger pebbles before?Im not sure if this could be a reason for the sudden deaths?

tank up and running for months now and until gravel change there was no major changes to tank it has been a very healthy tank until now.

tank has two filters one on either side, a fluval 3 and a fluval 4 so very well filtered, ill change the carbon filter pad tonight - worth a try

im really confused on what could be causing this - the new gravel i think its the only factor it could be but i dont understand how gravel could cause such a problem!!

Anyone got anymore ideas on what could be going wrong??

Im dreading going home later today - im postivie there will be at least another death, my poor froggy im really attached to him and was only last night admiring how much his swimming technique was coming on - such a shame i wish i knew what has gone wrong!

I'm only a new aquarium keeper myself - but presumably gravel has a certain bacteria content, could it be that you've lost a lot of your bacteria by changing it & tank has gone out of balance? I remember when i was setting up my tank i read that you could hang some old tights (!) full of used gravel in the tank to get it started... I'll bow to others opinions on this of course!

hhhmmm great point! I hadn't considered this at all, but that could be right, as the gravel which was there would most definatly had bacteria that had built up and i wiped it out! uurgggh *bangs head** stupid, stupid!!

How could i be so silly i changed gravel thinking it would help fishes as it was looking really grubby and all I've done is harm them,

does anyone know a good way i can get bacteria levels back to a normal place. The filters will have some built up obvisouly but maybe thats just not enough.

God I feel such a fool and so guilty!

Do you think the rest of my fish will continue to die? its so hard to know what action to take to prevent anymore deaths when im still not a 100% sure what has happened.

Any suggestions? Im deperate people!!

All i can think of is water changes to remove / dilute the ammonia. you can get filter-start products but i dont know how beneficial they are or whether they would do the trick.

ok ill do another water change now!

My little froggy is looking really bad now, he is completly boyant - looks like his little tummy his full of air which is keeping at the top of the tank.

I called LFS and they said there is nothing i can do - he must have gulped in to much air and u just have to wait and see if he can get it out himself or he will die  pretty frustrating i cant do anything to help him.

im sure this must be related to the problems im having with tank as he has always been fine i really hope hepulls through if anyone has had experiance with dwarf aqua frogs id really appreiciate some advice!

thanks

well started meds in the tank today for bacterial infection but think it could be too little too late.

Now one of my pandas is staying a top of tank surface and he seems to have one fin which appears to be red/bloody where it is attached to body - does this help identify whats wrong anyone know this symtom?

Yes it septicemia and you need an antibiotic which is only available through a vet, if the fish is heavy breathing i would issolate it as its dying, sorry, septicemia is blood poisoning and once it has progressed very hard to cure.

Just been reading your post and it sounds like a bad bacteria infection in your tank, please issolate the cory as it can release the bacteria into the tank.
