Help! Felix The Catfish Is In Trouble

Hey Fish Lovers,
My Catfish, (Polka Dot Pimelodella Catfish) is sick. He has been swimming up right/on his side for a few days now, his breathing rate has increased considerably. He hangs out a the surface a bit gasping at the top. His whiskers are not working properly. I'm hoping to save him. My other fish are fine the tank no problems. Need some suggest a.s.a.p!

Need more info on size of tank in gallons or litres, how many fish are in there.
Stats in ammonia,nitrite,nitrate, and ph.
If the fish is swimming to one side it sound like swim bladder what do you feed your fish.
If the fish is still eating try some frozen peas, cook them for a few minutes in bioling water, let cool down, pop out of shell and mush between fingers and add to the tank.
What do the whiskers look like they called barbels, are they short and thin.

Hey thanks for the reply. My tank is a 29 gallon. There are 4 neons, 2 gold barbs, 1 zebra danio, 1 lepoard danio, 1 blue ram, 2 kribs and 1 flying fox. The catfish i have had for nearly 3 years, he is my oldest fish and was always really hardy. My ammonia, nitrates, nitrites and pH are fine. But have been doing more frequent water changes since I have noticed the catfish behaviour change. He hasn't been eating the last 2-3 days. The whiskers seem to be thining at the ends and curling a little. Not much vigor or life in them.

I have removed him from the tank and put it in a 2 gallon tub. Don't know if that's the right thing to do. Any suggestions.

Felix didn't make it! He died sometime today while i was at work. I'm gonna miss him. I guess he's off to that big fish bowl in the sky. Again any suggestions, oh how i can help or prevent this loss with other fish in the future.

What does fine mean? What were the actual stats?

Whiskers curling in pimeloid catfish is an advanced sign of nitrite poisoning, as is swimming vertically against the sides of the tank, though poisoning from metals entering the tank will have the same effect. Are there any metal componants to the tank, lighting clips, filter mountings etc?

Or bless him. R.I.P. Was just going to say if the barbel had gone short it sounds like a bacterial infection which corys are more prone to.
