we brought 2 mollies the other week and now we have babies!!!!
i went straight out to our local pet store and they told us to buy this breeding trap so that is what we have the babies in for now. but i want to get a breeding tank to put them in.

so what i wanted to know was how long will i have to have it up and running for before i can add the babies to it? i have seen a nice 30L tank which comes with lights, heater, filter and air pump. i was told that i could add water from the main tank into the breeding tank and put the fish in straight away but i am not sure if that will work, so any advice would be grateful

Just take some filter media out of your current established filter and put it in new filter with existing media you will have an instant cycle

Congrats on the babies too! :D first batch of fry is so exciting

do you mean just rip off abit of sponge and add it to the new filter?

Welcome to the forum Kirsty.
If you have the typical 30 or so fry from a single molly drop, the tank you are looking at may be a bit small. I have mine in a 10 gallon which is about 38 litres and it is starting to look a bit crowded at 5 weeks of age. You already have good advice on how to establish a cycled filter.

Yep just rip/cut enough of to put into where your existing media is and voila! lol You can add water from established tank but it doesn't hold any beneficial bacteria . The 30L may be a bit small i use The Elite35 tank but i transfer babies over to my main tank to grow out as i know they won't get munched .The Elite also do a 55L tank comes with filter heater gravle/sand and lighting

Good Luck :D
