For the last four weeks, I have watched four male plakats in Pet Supplies Plus go from vibrant, healthy individuals to half dead. Every other fish from thier shipment and the subsequent ones has sold, but because they don't have long, pretty fins, they are sitting on the shelf to rot (literally). The store is NOT warm enough for them, and they are in very small cups that I do not feel are cleaned often enough. I purchased two; one a few weeks ago, and one today. The one I got today was the sickest of the lot; fin rot and external parasites. He may or may not make it. I have talked to the store, but they claim they can't do much since no one is buying them; most of the fish who are bought within the week do quite fine.
So, if you live near Scranton PA, these fish could use your help. I would be willing to buy them and help transport them to you, or direct you where to find them. They could really be lovely fish with a bit of work; one is dark bodied with iridescent blue scales on his sides, and red fins. The other is similar but with blue-green fins. Both WERE agressive, healthy, and active. Now both have fin rot and are very lethargic. I would take them myself if I didn't have 6 boys and girls to care for allready in my very small dorm.
edit: OH. I forgot to mention. I also regularly travel via Route 84 to the Fishkill/Hopewell/Poughkeepsie area of NY. If I could buy them and get them fixed up, I could also transport them to NY with me and rehome them there. So, if you live anywhere in that area - even if it is a little further off, such as New Paltz or Katonah, I could get them to you.
