my friend has purchased three juvenile bala sharks, (not big enough school) he put them in an un-cycled aquarium which is never good, and Finally he is keeping the bala sharks in a 40 gallon tank (bala sharks grow to a foot at a very fast rate). All of this is basically the epic combination of fish abuse What should i do/tell him?

I warn you, this is haaarrd.

Explain to him that the balas will grow much too big for the tank, and try your hardest to explain cycling. Include the point that the balas will not be as healthy or happy.
Next you could try to rehome the sharks.
If you want you could help him out with a cycle and help him stock his tank. :)

Thanks guys! ill show him tommorow when he comes for home night ( hes a day student at my boarding school! )

Hope it works.

Very rarely do people have tanks suitably large enough for a group of Bala sharks / Balantiocheilos melanopterus.
