Hi,
I am fairly new to the hobby. I have 2 tanks, one large (125Litres) and one smaller one (60Litres).
The 60 Litre tank is new, I have had a 12 litre tank which held mother and babies but there were far too many babies and the water quality was becoming a problem.
Last Thursday I transferred the mother and babies into the tank (after fishless cycling) and since then there has been a slow but steady death of the babies.

I have run tests on the water and got 0 for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. Ph read about 7 which is how it comes out of the tap.

All the water has been treated and I even put some Nutrafin Cycle into the tank just before they were put in.

All the fish that seem to be dying are the larger (perhaps 2 months old) ones that I would have expected to be a little more hardy and be able to take the tank change.
I have fished out 6 dead babies so far, its not that they are getting eaten either. The tank is fairly well planted so very few get eaten by the mother. The mother seems perfectly healthy and is showing no signs of illness.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be the problem and how I can ensure my remaining babies are ok?

Have I put this in the wrong section? Just seems that the forum is quite active but nobody has replied. I didnt want to put this in the emergency section because I know sometimes baby fish just die and thats nature. I just wanted to be sure I wasnt doing anything wrong.

it may just be the stress of moving them, is the temp them same? did you just put them in or slowly mix the waters?

I guess it could have been stress. I dont seem to have had any more deaths now so its probably not the conditions of the tanks. I tried to move them slowly getting them used to the tank water but theres always a small change, the temp was out a little. Also the new tank has a current and the old one didnt so that could have been a bit much for some. I still have about 50 left, all of which seem to be females!

Thanks for the help

Whilst we symapthise, this is probably not the best section to post. Most visitors here are new to the hobby and not qualified to answer you.

they all will appear females until about 6-8weeks old then you should get a few males popping through, usually the first ones to get colour tend to be males
