I'm about ready to try my hand at breeding egg laying fish. I've always been good at livebearers, especially guppies, but I want to make it a wee but harder.

In ya'lls opinion, which egg layer is the easiest to breed? What do I need, tanks, tank size, heaters, etc.

Thanks a bunch!

there is a thread on here that i put together about breeding danios... It'll apply to just about all egg scatterers. (danios, tetras etc)

ah - I cant find the thread - it was pre server change...

Thanks for the link Wilder.

Yeah, smith, I was thinking along the lines of danios. I may just stick with guppies. I'm planning to start something new with them anyways.
If I have 5 5gallon bare bottom tanks, and placed a batch of.. 10 guppy fry in one, would I be okay without a filter if I did a 25% waterchange everyday?

get some marbles for the bottom of the tank...

put a male and a fat female in the tank and leave tehm till the female is thin again.

In amongst the marbles you should be able to see the eggs (as the parents won t be able to get to them to eat them.

at this point remove the parents.

you can then also remove teh marbles if you want (a lot easier to clean the debries and deads out then.

- I'd get a small air powered foam filter at least when the egs hatch there will be a lot of poo.
