help my panda of 4 months has changed from being active to hiding a lot. both my larger pandas have a red anas is this a worm. i havnt fed live food.can try to upload pictures but not sure how (sorry bit computer ignorant) LFS said could be female coming into spawn but have not come across this red part as a symptom of this. desperate to save my panda please if anyone can help

Well, thankfully I've never seen it, but if it looks inflamed there you need to treat for worms/parase ites.
Also, the behaviour change confirms something ain't right I guess.

Try to upload pictures. Open a free account on imageshack website or photobucket(just google these and it will find the link for you). Once uploaded there, copy the link of the picture and paste it here, or use the "insert picture" button from one of the options here while typing a post.

thanks i will try to get pictures

Does it look like a red spike of a worm coming out like this? http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii82/Horizon818/Fish/Camallanus2.jpg

Or is it the actual flesh of the fish which is red?

this is what it looks like on my false flying fox which seems in good health but i had wondered!! on my panda it looks like his anus is red instead of the grey that it was. thanks for replying and how do i treat this. am still trying to work out how to upload a picture.

If it is like the above picture, a red spike of a worm, sometimes more than one, coming out of the fish, it is a parasite called camallanus. It's nasty and can wipe out the whole tank. I've had it in my tank as well, my Bolivian rams and apistos were riddled with it. The rams survived but the tiny apistos didn't.

It's not easy to treat! This is the thread I started when I found them, and other people linked to other topics in it. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/370017-camellanus-worms/page__p__3091660__fromsearch__1#entry3091660

BUT please do upload a photo so that it can be confirmed, you don't want to treat for something unless you're positive that's what the fish have.

ok am trying to upload pictures

god that looks a lot but please hopefully it works thanks for waiting

Well they don't look like camallanus worms to me, so that's lucky!

By the way you don't have to click reply at the bottom of the previous post, you just end up quoting loads of text. Useful if there's a few different people posting though.

But anyway, I'm not sure what's going on there. Someone else might know.

The right-hand photo looks like my Panda Garra from memory, the hiding away sounds very normal too. No idea what that thing is in the left-hand photo though, protruding from the anus.

Two is not a good number to have (if I read your post correctly), one will usually become dominant and bully the submissive one to an early grave ("greying" of thir normal vibrant colours is a sign of battles), they are a good singleton or at least 3 to a tank (just like Leopard Bushfish) providing they each have a cave and at least 30x30cm of tank floor to call home.

ive had two for 4 months and about 3 weeks ago purchased 2 smaller ones as the other 2 had started to become terratorial. the new pandas look perfectly healthy with normal colouring. im glad u dont think its camallanus but still worried as this does not appear normal i guess i will have to wait and see what happens. i have never fed live food only brine shrimp.

It may not be callamanus, but it could be some other type of worm or parasite and it won't go away without treatment.

thanks this is driving me mad i dont want to lose my pandas. i should have mentioned i lost a molly 3 days ago it looked in great condition but had white bit protruding slightly from anus with a tiny red slither on it. i mentioned this along with my other problems to my LFS but they insist it is not worms. can you recommend a good treatment please as am desperate.

You might have more luck if this post is moved the the emergencies section. More people might see it that way.
