Hi Joey,

Neon tetras are the natural food of Angels in the Amazon, where they both live. The neons live in schools of thousands or millions and the angels just eat a few when they get hungry and can catch some.

It sounds like you've got the most promising combination in that your angel is small. Often they will ignore and get along with neons that were already in the tank when the small angel was put in, as long as the neons are not too small themselves. Is the angel nipping the neons?

What is the volume of water your tank can hold? How tall is the tank? Angels need at least 17 or 18 inches of height in a tank and generally 28-30 US gallons is about the smallest volume for angels. If your tank is large enough then adding a second young/small angel to make a pair may help distract the angel.

Otherwise of course its a matter of convincing the LFS or a friend to take the angel perhaps.

Unfortunately the angel will not stay that size forever, actually not for long. My angels are now about 6" tall. But like said above because the angel is small now when introduced into the tank he/she may not see the neons as a food source, we hope he wont'. For now that tank may be okay but the angel will out grow it quickly. When you said the store will not do a return were you talking about the tank or the fish? My advice is to begin looking at new options possibly larger tank or finding new home for the angel. By doing it now you wont be rushed later when you notice aggression or sick fish and decide to do something.

I'm not saying a new tank now! I'm saying prepare yourself, something will need to be done sometime so just think about it now.

As for angels and your neon, my angels never bothered any of the smaller fish i had in the tank (white cloud minnows mostly) but they where re homed as the angels grew.

Hope what i said will help
