My Platy is about to give birth. I bought some floating plants and plants one the bottom. I dont have a trap (?) but i do have a small fish bowl. I was thinking to put her in the small bow with no other fish and when shes done to let her back in the tank with 3 other platys. (2 babys about 1 cm long, and a "teenager" about 2.5 cm long) wut to do?!?! should i leave her in the tank shes in now? she circling the floating plants, so she wants them to stay there but wut to do after birth?!?! Help!

:fish: :fish: :fish: :(

I'd leave her drop where she is,putting her into a bowl will probably stress her at this late stage, turn the lights off and leave her be,the fry are good at hiding,so will hide out in the plants.

It could take a few hours for her to drop all her fry.they'll be fine for a few days and will live off their egg sac,if you want to save them, you could always buy a breeding trap, but they'll soon outgrow this in a few weeks.

Or set up a fry tank, this could be simple like a clean plastic storage box.buy a cheap filter & heater and away you go.

Thanks so much, but how long to leave them in a fry tank, and do i put the mom and plants in the fry tank, let her give birth (maybe a couple hours) and put her back in big tank, and wait for fry to grow up? and is a filter necesary?

I believe the mum eats the fry so its just the fry you want to put into a place on there own.
