I'm new to this forum and am curious about ordering fish online? Can I do it and where are the best people to buy tropical fish from? I have a brand new 20 gallon tank with all the fixings gs set up for both fish and turtles. Since I'm not getting my turtles yet I am wanting to purchase some fishies to put in there. Im not new to owning fish but I have never purchased fish online. Any help steering me in the right direction will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum! I am not familiar with the online fish market but I sure someone who is will come along shortly!

Thank you! What about baby turtles? Lol. I really want 2 of those
You may be able to keep the babies in a 20g but that will be too small for them in the long run :) also they will likely eat any fish you put in with them

I agree. Fish and turtles do not work together, except in very large tanks. Assuming you are thinking of the turtles like red ear slider and similar temperate species, they need sufficient swimming space but also an area of dry land under a heat-type bulb so they can completely dry their shells. I had one of these back in the 1980's, and as he grew so did the tank space, and when I moved and gave him to a friend's son, the 4-foot 55g tank he was in went with him. When he was small, he was in a 20g but he (or she) outgrew that in a year or so.

Welcome to TFF. :hi:

I picked up 4 RES baby turtles in 1996 in Chinatown, New York and raised them in a 20 gallon long. I also had a kids plastic pool for them to swim in during the summer when they grew larger. I still have 2 of them alive. They all lived over 20 years. The two I have left use the 20 gallon as a sunning tank during the winter. I also kept them in a 55 gallon tank for some years. I bought them for each of my kids and named them after the Teenage Age Mutant Turtles, When my kids left they left the turtles behind.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I have bought plants online from Amazon and shrimp from Ebay. Shipping can be costly compare to buying at you LFS or Petco.
I'm all done shopping at my local pet co and places like that....unfortunately where I am from the places are not that great and they hard0ly ever have anything in stock

Yes! I have had a hatchling eastern painted turtle before and had her in a plastic tub set up. 20 gallon will be more than plenty for it for awhile before u would have to upgrade. The tank u have is low profile so it's pretty long & lots of area to work with! I plan on keeping some types of fish with them. As long as the fish are bigger than the turtles tiny little faces are they will be fine!! And I plan on just adjusting accordingly as they grow

Awesome! When are hatchling size to start it takes awhile for them to outgrow that size space. I actually found mine by mistake but glad I did

As someone who has done this, it is not advisable. Turtles will naturally nip at fish, and fish will frequently nip at turtles. I would not say they will be fine because I have not yet managed to actually communicate verbally with the fish (or turtles). ;) There is also the issue of disease back and forth, as someone in another thread a few months back faced.
