hello Mick welcome to TFF Congratulations on catching the bug. One word of warning the BUG has some interesting symptoms namely BTS and MTS. Bigger Tank Syndrome and More Tank Syndrome.  :S

I understand your interest in starting a Marine tank it is something I am looking into myself.
You have come to the right place, there are some very knowledgble marine keepers here if you ever decide to go for it.

Enjoy the forums and one other thing we love picture here so please share some pictures of your tank and your son's :good:

If you go to members pictures section there is a pinned post on how to place a picture on here: http://www.fishforum...pload-pictures/

But simply you need to download pictures to a host site like photo bucket its free, when you have downloaded the picture there will be an IMG code below the picture copy the code then paste it in a post here.

Of course you don't have to but it is nice to see peoples pictures, I am a Dude by the way lol

Welcome to the forum wetdog.
I understand your reluctance to going over to the dark side salt water side of the hobby. We all must deal with limitations of time and knowledge. I find that I am a fairly advanced hobbyist in the freshwater side who is clueless when it comes to salt water. Although I admire many salty setups, I find that I can achieve about the same quality of displays by using technology that I am familiar with using. For me that means a high pH and relatively hard water situation. Other people will have variations on my situation but probably have come to many of the same conclusions.
