Hi everyone, just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Rob, have had my aquarium for just over 2 years now. It's a juwel rekord 120 that's starting to look ill, I think the filter's dying  the water quality seems to have really deteriorated over the last week (although all the measurements are fine for now) - I was looking for info and found your forum :)

Looks like I'll be getting an external filter now (Tetratec EX700 seems rated highly on here and isn't too expensive) as frankly that internal one's been a bit of a PITA

Here's an old pic of the tank with the lights off taken about a year and a half ago, I still have most of those fish in the pic - just a bit bigger now  although the two gourami died.

Will get a recent one at some point but the tank looks a state atm :-(

btw loving the bb software :good:

EDIT: anyone know how the juwel filter is fixed in place? I can't seem to shift it at all and I'd like to take it out when my new filter arrives and is mature

Hi dhracer and welcome to TFF!

You've found a great place (imo) to learn and to be able to ask questions about the best way to restore your aquarium and get it in great shape again. I suggest you start up a question thread over in the "New to the Hobby" forum (even though you've kept fish, you may find you are new to all the wonderful info these guys/gals know! I kept many tanks for many years, long ago, but now consider myself a beginners compared to these folks!)

You might also want to post your filter question separately over in the "Hardware and DIY" forum. Both the forums I've mentioned are high traffic and some of the experts and people who know about your particular question are sure to see them there.

Thanks for the advice, yeah I do consider myself "New to the Hobby" as tbh I've not really had any problems with my tank till now except a bout of whitespot when it was first set up (I bought it off someone and it came with some fish, unsurprisingly all the levels spiked at first..)

Till last week I'd never measured ammonia levels as I'd wrongly thought it wasn't necessary for an established tank  (found the zero ppm incidentally)
