Hellol, I'm Adrienne. I'm new to the forums as well as to fish-keeping. I have a 10 US Gallon tank that is all set up and I have just begun fishless cycling. I would appreciate any suggestions with the process! I have a thread in the New to the Hobby forum about my cycling process. Just wanted to introduce myself, any questions just ask :fun:

Add some fish food to the tank and let it rot in there for a while. This will release ammonia into water then add Bacteria to jumpstart your filter. Should be cycled ina week :good:

Hello Adrienne welcome to TFF I congratulate you on your wise choice to fishless cycle :good:

the thread on fishless cycling in the section you mentioned is very good :good:

I would recommend using an Ammonia for cycling your tank

Thanks for the advice! :fish: My preference is to cycle with Ammonia as opposed to fish food, in order to keep the tank a little cleaner and such. However my search for Ammonia today yielded no results... Anyone in the U.S. have any suggestions of where to get it? Specifically in the mid-Atlantic coast area?

Happy New Year, everyone

Also, fishless cycling is the morally sound choice, if you're able to do so. I will never again cycle with fish now that I've read up on it. Wish I'd never cycled with fish, but sadly I have in the past before I knew what cycling even was.

At least you are doing the right thing now you know :good:

In the US you find the right ammonia at Ace True Value in the cleaning products aisle. I never did find any at another store near me. It cost a dollar or two for a gallon a few years ago and has cycled a large number of tanks. I think I may have actually used a whole cup of it by now.

Thank you very much. Now I just have to figure out if there is an Ace anywhere near me...
