I'm an experienced fish keeper that recently decided to get back into it.

Ive been successfully breeding peacock gudgeon for the last month and every time the eggs develop and even hatch but they never swim they all just lay there and eventually die. I thought maybe it was genetic but as of today the same thing is happening with my 24k white cloud minnows. Has anyone else had something similar happen to them? Could it have something to do with my water?

Gudgeon eggs hatch and the baby gudgeons hang around for another day or two before starting to move about.

If other fish fry are dying it's probably something in the water. Make sure there is no ammonia, nitrite or nitrate in the water.

Make sure the water is free of chlorine/ chloramine.

Add some activated carbon to the tanks or filter the new tap water with carbon after you have treated it for chlorine/ chloramine.
